In the very first week that I arrived to Rome, and the first time I walked up Via Borgognona I immediately noticed Ginger restaurant when it wasn't even open. The exterior of the restaurant has a crisp clean white facade and ceiling to floor windows which allow natural light to flood the entire restaurant. I have always been interested in white minimalistic interiors so I suppose thats what drew me in first.
First thing you should know about Ginger is that you'll need a reservation. I don't think I've ever walked past the restaurant and not seen a que of both tourists and italians snaking around the corner. Ring a day or two in advanced and you should be fine.
The menu is extremely varied and very well thought out. Entire menu available here. Whether you want a light lunch of fresh salad and delicious tasting boards or if you're in the mood for trying out their incredible beef burgers on homemade brown bread there is something for everyone. Ginger is also great for picking up a freshly squeezed juice or smoothie to grab after a long day of shopping and site seeing. The juice bar is one of my favorite parts of the restaurant, its always over flowing with pineapples, mangos and seasonal fruit and vegetables.
The interior of the restaurant is bright and elegant yet it is extremely easy to feel completely relaxed and laid back as the attentive and charming staff are more than willing to give their suggestions and recommendations. Another aspect of the restaurant that I love is their beautiful deli where the dried meats and cheese boards are prepared. Here they have a vast array of cured meats hanging behind the counter with each slice of dried ham being cut fresh for each platter. The rest of the meats and cheeses are enclosed in a beautiful glass container which allows you to see exactly what is goes on in prepping the sharing boards.
I visited Ginger on a Wednesday for lunch. I hadn't made a reservation but we were only two and it wasn't too late in the afternoon so we luckily got a table. That being said half an hour after being seated I noticed the beginning of a que forming outside the door.
On this Wednesday I went for the fresh garden salad called Mazzini which consists of a huge salad bowl full of mixed leaves, homemade organic roast beef, cherry tomatoes, organic sports and shavings op D.O.P parmesan cheese, all dressed in a light vinaigrette. My friend opted for a salad also, her's was called Vignola, and was made up of mixed leaves, fennel, avocado, walnuts, organic spouts and vibrant slices of orange.

The only negative comment I have to say about Ginger is that I think it is slightly over priced. I appreciate the fact that all of the ingredients are organic when they can be and there is a lot of effort put in to producing house made ingredients, but for two juices and two salads it set us back €40.
That being said, I would most definitely return and I won't hesitate to pay the price because I thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere and the simplicity of the restaurant.

So do give Ginger a try if you love to eat tasty, healthy food in a gorgeous environment.
One final note: although I didn't get to try this dish, my eyes were immediately drawn to it every time it came out of the kitchen and I would highly recommend getting it to share at the end of a meal is the fruit sharing platter - a bit of a novelty but it comes out in a huge bowl full of crushed ice with beautifully arranged vibrant colorful seasonal fruit, a healthy alternative to a heavy dessert.
